3M Visual Attention Service

The sales tool of every account team. The partner of every designer. And the champion of every brand marketer.

3M™ Visual Attention Service is a cutting-edge scanning tool that lets you scientifically analyze design effectiveness, based on how the average human eye responds. And 3M VAS works on virtually any visual design – banner ads, print ads, signage, retail space, and more.

The tool analyzes basic design elements such as colors, faces, shapes, contrast and text, to accurately predict which areas will attract attention in the first 3 to 5 seconds. The results show you the hotspots – and the not-so-hot spots – so you can easily confirm your design choices or alter your image to emphasize specific elements.

3M VAS does not measure the strength of marking messages or the emotional impact of a design – it goes straight to the heart of visual science to tell you where the human eye will naturally gravitate in the first few seconds of viewing. Once you’re certain you’ve grabbed the attention of as many people as possible, your next steps depend on your own marketing goals and needs.

ClickHeat

ClickHeat is a visual heatmap of clicks on a HTML page, showing hot and cold click zones. ClickHeat is an OpenSource software, released under GPL licence, and free of charge.

Requirements

  • On the browser’s client: Javascript (tested on Firefox 2.0, Internet Explorer 6 and 7, Konqueror…)
  • On the server: either Linux or Windows (since ClickHeat 1.3 release), Apache or Lighttpd (other may work fine), PHP, the graphic library GD2 (PNG support needed). Please post on the bug tracker or contact us (link at the bottom of the page) if you have problem running ClickHeat.

Features

  • Low logging activity: a very few function calls to log a click, no server load rise should be noticed (have a look at Performance & optimization)
  • A keyword is used to define the page upon Javascript code load, allowing you to group same pages.
  • Screen sizes and browsers are logged, making possible the tracking of liquid CSS layouts (100% used width).

Clicktale

ClickTale is the industry leader of In Page Web Analytics, providing businesses with unparalleled insights into their visitors’ entire online experience. Unlike traditional web analytics that monitors visitor movement between pages, ClickTale’s web analytics solution focuses on what visitors do inside the web pages themselves.

Most web analytics solutions capture visitors landing on a web page and monitor their movement from page to page within a site. This is great for collecting quantitative information about your website traffic, but can’t tell you much about what visitors do once inside these pages.

That’s where ClickTale’s In-Page Analytics come in. ClickTale focuses on visitor interactions inside these pages, recording everything from mouse moves and clicks to actual keystrokes. This gives a much more thorough, in-depth, view into what your visitors are focusing on and interacting with inside the pages themselves.

Feng-Gui

Feng-GUI simulates human vision during the first 5 seconds of exposure to visuals, and creates heatmaps based on an algorithm that predicts what a real human would be most likely to look at. Such pre-testing is used to identify weak spots within your design and to improve performance, location of brand and webpage call to action. Feng-GUI Dashboard offers designers and advertisers, a pre-testing service that predicts performance of your design, before it airs, by analyzing levels of attention, brand effectiveness and placement, as well as breaking down the flow of attention.

Feng-GUI is a group of artificial vision scientists and interactive designers. We have joined together to pool our resources exploring human vision to find out: Where and how people look and what do they find attractive?

Attention Wizard

AttentionWizard simulates human vision during the first 5 seconds of exposure to visuals, and creates an eye-tracking heatmap based on an algorithm that predicts what a real human would be most likely to look at. AttentionWizard can identify which page elements are being looked at and which are being ignored. A “busy” eye-gaze path and scattered heatmap with many hotspots is usually an indication that visual priorities of the page are not clear, which could cause visitor confusion and a higher bounce rate for your landing page.

Armed with this information, web designers can adjust the visual elements on a page to focus attention where it belongs, increasing the likelihood of conversion.
